How to set up your DOG 6 XL

Your DOG 6 XL is ready to help you track your dog's location and health. Here's how to set it up and start tracking in about 15-20 minutes (plus 2-3 hours for charging).

Before you start

For the best setup experience, we recommend:

Charge your tracker fully first. Your tracker comes partially charged, but a full charge ensures it won't die during setup. A full charge takes approximately 2-3 hours (the app will show you when it's fully charged).

For complete charging instructions, see: How to charge your tracker

Set up your tracker

Step 1: Download the Tractive app (2 minutes)

Download the Tractive mobile app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). You can also scan the QR code on the quick start guide that came in your box.

Step 2: Turn on your tracker (30 seconds)

Press and hold the power button on the side of the tracker for 3 seconds until you see LED lights. This means your tracker is on and ready to connect.

Step 3: Activate your tracker in the app (5-10 minutes)

Open the Tractive app and follow the in-app instructions to activate your tracker. The app will walk you through:

  • Creating your account (or logging in)
  • Connecting your tracker via Bluetooth
  • Choosing your subscription plan (requires your payment information)

Your tracker needs an active subscription to send location data over cellular networks. The subscription includes unlimited tracking, health monitoring, and all app features.

For detailed activation help, see: How to activate your tracker

Step 4: Attach the tracker to your dog's collar (2-3 minutes)

The DOG 6 XL uses a rubber mount that slides onto any collar or harness. It's easier to attach the mount before putting the collar on your dog.

Choose method A or B, depending on the width of your dog’s collar.

Fit the collar around your dog's neck with the tracker on top, positioned between the shoulder blades.

Check the fit by sliding two fingers between the collar and your dog's neck. It should be snug but not tight.

💡 Tip: If the mount slides on the collar, make sure it's pushed all the way on and positioned snugly. You can also try positioning it slightly higher or lower on the collar for a tighter fit.

Step 5: Check that tracking is working (2-5 minutes)

Open the Tractive mobile app to see your pet's location on the map.

It may take a few minutes for the first location to appear while the tracker connects to GPS satellites and cellular networks. Once connected, you'll see your pet's position on the map.

To check the connection, press the power button briefly to see the LED lights:

  • Green lights = Good connection. You're tracking!
  • Red lights = No cellular or GPS connection. Move your pet near a window or outside.
