Pet isn't on the leaderboards

If a dog isn't showing up on leaderboards, there are a few common reasons. Here's how to check and fix it.

Note: Leaderboards are for dogs only. You can still track your cat’s activity and health, but they won't appear on leaderboards.

If it’s your dog, check their name

Pet names on leaderboards must be appropriate. If your dog’s name was flagged, they won't appear on leaderboards.

Why names are moderated

Dog names on leaderboards can’t have swear words, offensive language, or inappropriate references.

What happens if a name is flagged

  • Your dog is removed from all leaderboards
  • You won't get a notification when this happens
  • You can still track your dog's activity and health
  • Your dog's activity data stays saved (nothing is lost)

How to fix it

Step 1: Update your dog's name for review:

  1. Go to hc_icon_profile.svg Profile in the app.
  2. Go to hc_icon_profile.svg Pet Details.
  3. Change the name to something appropriate.
  4. Save changes.

Step 2: Wait for up to 24 hours

After changing the name, wait up to 24 hours. If the name is approved, your dog will automatically reappear on leaderboards.

All your dog's activity data (active minutes, history) will still be there. Changing the name doesn't reset or erase anything.

What names are not allowed

  • Names with swear words or offensive language
  • Names with inappropriate references
  • Names meant to be hurtful or mean

Keep names friendly and appropriate for all ages.

If it’s a friend’s dog, check which dog is selected

If you added a friend but their dog isn’t on the Friends Leaderboard, check which dog is currently selected in your app.

Why this matters

The Friends Leaderboard shows friends for the dog that's currently selected in the dropdown at the top of your app screen.

If you're viewing a dog you don't own (someone shared their dog with you):

  • You'll only see that dog owner's friends
  • You won't see YOUR friends on the leaderboard
  • Your friends won't appear until you switch to your own dog

How to fix it

If you have your own dog:

  1. Look at the top of the app screen.
  2. Tap the dropdown menu.
  3. Select YOUR dog (the one you own).
  4. Check the Friends Leaderboard again.

You should now see your friends’ dogs.

If you only track shared dogs (you don't own a tracker)

You’ll only see the dog you’re tracking and the dogs of the owner’s friends in the Friends Leaderboard.

To see your friends’ dogs as well, ask the owner to add your friends to their account. See How do Tractive leaderboards work?

Frequently asked questions

I changed my dog's name. How long until they appear on leaderboards?

If your dog was removed from the leaderboards, wait for 24 hours after changing their name.

Will changing my dog's name affect their activity history?

No. All your dog's activity and health data stays the same. Only the name shown on leaderboards changes.

Can I appeal if my dog's name was flagged?

If you believe your dog's name was flagged by mistake, contact our support team. They'll review your case and help you understand why the name was flagged.

Why wasn't I notified when my dog's name was flagged?

To keep Tractive a safe community, the system automatically flags inappropriate names and removes dogs from leaderboards. If your dog suddenly stopped appearing on leaderboards, check if the name might be the reason.

My friend's dog isn’t on my Friends Leaderboard. Why?

Make sure:

  • Your friend has joined leaderboards
  • Your friend's dog’s name is appropriate
  • Your friend has accepted your friend request (or you've accepted theirs)
  • Your friend has accepted the original pet owner’s friend request or vice versa (if you’re tracking a dog that’s shared with you)
