[ForTranslation] What is Resting Respiratory Rate monitoring?

Tractive tracks your pet's breathing rate while they rest or sleep to help you spot early signs of health issues. By monitoring how your pet's breathing changes over time, you can catch potential problems before they become serious.

Tractive isn't a medical device. While Tractive monitors trends and patterns in your pet’s well-being, it's not intended to diagnose health conditions. We recommend always seeking medical advice from a vet.

How Resting Respiratory Rate monitoring works

Your tracker measures how many breaths your pet takes per minute while they're resting or sleeping. The Tractive app then analyzes this data to identify their typical resting breathing rate.

What you'll see:

  • Your pet's average resting breathing rate
  • A seven-day chart showing daily trends
  • Status indicators (normal, higher than normal, or lower than normal)

If there are noticeable differences compared to your pet's normal breathing rate, you'll see it in the app's Health tab. The more data your pet's tracker gathers over time, the more precise the baseline becomes.

Why it matters: Changes in your pet's breathing while resting can be early signs of health concerns, so tracking this helps you stay ahead of potential issues.

Where to find your pet’s Resting Respiratory Rate

  1. Open the Tractive mobile app.
  2. At the bottom, go to hc_icon_health.svg Health.

Requirements for monitoring

For your tracker to collect resting respiratory rate data:

Your tracker must be worn for at least seven days. Data from at least seven days gives the tracker enough information to establish your pet's baseline.

Use the tracker consistently. Keep your tracker on your pet as much as possible, especially when they're resting or sleeping. The more data collected, the more accurate the baseline.

Your pet needs to rest. The tracker collects data when your dog is sleeping, relaxing, or resting. Active time isn't included in the breathing rate calculation.

Understanding the data

What the statuses mean

health-marker-low
Lower (orange neutral face)

Breathing rate is lower than their usual baseline. This might warrant monitoring.

health-marker-normal
Normal (blue smiley face)

Resting breathing rate is within their typical range. No concerns detected.

health-marker-elevated
Elevated (orange neutral face)

Breathing rate is higher than their usual baseline. Consider monitoring closely.

Why you might see "Lower" or "Higher"

It's normal for breathing rates to fluctuate slightly. Consistent changes over several days are more significant than a single day's variation.

If you see consistent changes for 2-3 days or more, consider contacting your vet. They can help determine if it's a concern.

How this helps you and your pet

Early detection: Spot potential health concerns before they become serious by tracking changes in breathing rate patterns.

Peace of mind: Know that your pet's breathing rate is being monitored continuously, even while you sleep.

Better vet conversations: Share concrete data with your vet using Tractive's insights. This helps them make informed decisions about your pet's health and well-being.

Track wellness over time: See how your pet's breathing rate changes with activity levels, stress, seasons, or lifestyle adjustments.
