Let your family, friends, or pet sitters track your pet through their own Tractive app with Family Sharing!
You'll need a Tractive GPS PREMIUM subscription to access Family Sharing.
What features can family members access?
Family members can access your pet's location, activity data, and Location History, and utilize features like LIVE tracking, Light, and Sound at no additional cost. They simply need to create a free Tractive GPS account.
Family members cannot make changes to your account details, subscription plan, Pet Profile, Virtual Fences or Power Saving Zones. Additionally, the Walk Feature is not currently available for family members.
Add a new family member
- Open the Tractive GPS app
- Tap Profile on the bottom bar
- Select Family
- Tap Send Invite
- Choose the app you'd like to use and send the link
Your family member should:
- Install the app on their smartphone and log in to their own Tractive account. (If they haven't downloaded the app yet, they will be prompted to do so when they click the link.)
- Click the link they have received.
- The app will then re-open and they will see your invite.
- From there, they simply need to click Join Family to start tracking your pet.
If they don’t see the invite right away, they may need to close the app (keeping it running in the background) and re-click the link.
The link is valid for 24 hours, after which it will expire.
Remove a family member
- Open the Tractive GPS app
- Tap Profile on the bottom bar
- Select Family
- Find the person you'd like to stop sharing your tracker with and tap Remove - done!
Your family members can also choose to stop tracking your pet at any time using the same steps above.
FAQs
What is the difference between Family Sharing and Public Sharing?
Family Sharing is designed for close family members, friends, or pet-sitters and is managed by the primary Tractive account owner. Invited individuals gain access to most app features, making it ideal for those who regularly care for your pet. Public Sharing, on the other hand, offers a link for anyone to view your pet's location, perfect for quickly sharing with individuals who do not have a Tractive GPS account. This link allows recipients to see the tracker's current location and switch between map views but no further features are enabled.
How many family members can I share tracker access with?
You can share tracker access with as many people as you like! There is no upper limit.
Where can I see which family members I'm sharing tracker access with?
To see who you're currently sharing your tracker with and manage their access, simply:
- Tap Profile on the bottom bar
- Select Family
You'll see a list of everyone you've shared your tracker with here.
Does my family member need their own Tractive account?
Yes, the person you’re sharing tracker access with needs to have their own Tractive GPS account. If it’s urgent and you don’t have a few minutes to set up the sharing feature, it might be helpful to use Public Sharing instead, although it does not give them access to as many features.
As a family member, how can I track more than one pet?
If you have more than one pet in your Tractive account (either your own tracker or trackers shared with you), you can easily switch between pets by tapping the drop-down arrow located at the top of the map screen, next to the name of the currently selected pet. Simply tap the pet you wish to track or view detailed information about.
