Yes. All Tractive trackers are waterproof and dustproof (IP68 rated). Your pet can swim, play in the rain, splash in puddles, or run through mud without damaging the tracker.
What IP68 means
IP68 is an international standard that measures how well a device is protected against dust and water.
The two numbers mean:
- 6 (dust protection): Completely dust-tight. No dust can get inside the tracker, even in dusty environments.
- 8 (water protection): Protected against continuous immersion in water. The tracker can be submerged beyond 1 meter depth.
For Tractive trackers specifically:
Tractive trackers are waterproof up to 1.5 meter (4.9 feet) depth for 30 minutes. This means your pet can swim in pools, lakes, or shallow water without any issues.
What your pet can do with the tracker
Swimming
Your pet can swim in fresh water (pools, lakes, rivers) with the tracker on. The tracker is fully protected and will continue working normally.
Playing in the rain
Rain won't damage the tracker. Your pet can play outside in any weather.
Splashing and puddles
Puddles, sprinklers, and shallow water are perfectly fine. The tracker is designed for active, water-loving pets.
Sea water
The tracker is safe to use in sea water. After swimming in the ocean, rinse the tracker with fresh tap water to remove salt and sand. This helps keep it clean and working properly.
Muddy adventures
The tracker is dust-tight, so mud, dirt, and dust won't get inside. Just rinse it off when you get home.
Taking care of your tracker
After swimming in sea water
- Rinse the tracker with fresh tap water.
- Gently wipe away any salt or sand.

- Don't use harsh chemicals or cleaners.
- Check the tracker regularly for any visible damage.
Frequently asked questions
Can my pet dive or swim in deep water with the tracker?
The tracker is waterproof up to 1.5 meter (4.9 feet) depth for 30 minutes. Most pets swim at the surface or in shallow water, so this is more than enough. If your pet is a strong swimmer who dives deeper, the tracker should still be fine for typical swimming activities.
What if the tracker is submerged longer than 30 minutes?
The 30-minute rating is a testing standard. In practice, the tracker can handle longer periods in shallow water during normal swimming. However, continuous deep submersion beyond the tested limits isn't recommended.
Can I use the tracker underwater to track my pet?
GPS signals don't work underwater. The tracker will show your pet's last known location before they got in the water. Once they surface or come out of the water, GPS tracking will resume.
Does the waterproof rating decrease over time?
Waterproof seals can wear slightly over time with regular use, but the tracker is designed to maintain its waterproof protection throughout its normal lifespan. Avoid dropping the tracker on hard surfaces, as impacts can potentially affect the seals.
Can I also take the tracker in hot water, like hot tubs?
Avoid hot water and hot tubs. IP68 ratings are tested at normal water temperatures. High temperatures can affect the waterproof seals.
