This article is tailored for owners of our latest tracker, the Tractive DOG 6. If you have a different Tractive tracker model, please refer to the article linked here.
Understanding Normal Charging Behavior
To charge your tracker, follow these simple steps:
- Open the protective charging port cover
- Plug the USB-C cable into the charging port
- Connect the other end of the cable to a power source
Your tracker features two LED bars, one at the top and one at the bottom. The bottom LED bar will gradually light up from left to right as the device charges. The tracker is fully charged when the entire LED bar is lit. A full charge takes around 2 hours.
What to do if your tracker flashes blue when attempting to charge it
If your tracker displays a blue light when you try to charge it, it means that water has entered the charging port and you should refrain from charging until the port is dry. To dry your tracker:
- Open the protective charging port cover
- Tap the tracker gently against your hand to remove excess water from the charging port
- Use a dry, lint-free cloth to gently blot around the port, removing as much moisture as possible
- Attempt to charge your tracker again
- If the blue light persists, place your tracker in a dry, well-ventilated area for a couple of hours.
Once it’s completely dry, your tracker will resume normal charging functionality.
What to do if your tracker doesn’t respond when attempting to charge it
If the bottom LED bar does not light up when you try to charge the tracker or battery, please try the following tips to get your tracker charging again:
- Make sure that the charger is correctly attached to the tracker or battery and plugged into a working power source.
- Inspect the charging cable and tracker for damages or defects.
- Try charging your tracker using another charging cable, A/C adapter, or using the USB port of your computer to rule out the possibility of a defective charging cable or A/C adapter. Remember you can use any USB-C charging cable to charge your Tractive DOG 6.
By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to identify and resolve common charging issues. If problems persist, don't hesitate to contact us for further assistance.
What to do when your tracker loses battery % when charging
After the tracker is fully charged, it may slowly discharge even while still connected to the charger. This happens because of a built-in feature that helps protect the battery and extend its lifespan.
If the tracker remains plugged in, the battery will typically drop to around 85% before it automatically begins charging again. If you'd like the tracker to restart charging immediately, you can unplug it and then plug it back into the charger.
This behavior might seem unusual, especially if you're familiar with our other tracker models, which stay at 100% when kept on the charger—but rest assured, it's completely normal for this model and doesn't affect the performance of your device.
